The League of Women Voters Benicia will be hosting a “Meet the Candidates” event on Thursday, May 23, at 7:00 PM, at the Crockett Community Center.
This is your opportunity to meet the candidates who are running for the three seats on the Crockett Community Foundation’s Board of Directors. The four candidates will introduce themselves to the community and answer questions from attendees at this town hall-style meeting.

CCF Newsletter/Board Election

Keep your eye out for the Crockett Community Foundation newsletter- it should be in your mailbox today or tomorrow. We hope you enjoy the article on the John Swett Education Foundation, as well as information regarding recent CCF activities. Early next week you will receive your election materials for the upcoming election of three CCF Board of Directors. Ballots should be mailed on or before June 15; self addressed, stamped envelopes are included in the packet. Your participation in this important community event is strongly encouraged.

 
Boy Scouts Fish Fry
Friday, May 17 from 4-8 at the Boy Scout Hall. Proceeds benefit the Crockett Boy Scouts.
 
Free Musical Concert at JSHS
On Friday, May 17 (7pm at the John Swett High School Auditorium) Musicians from Rodeo Hills Elementary School. Carquinez Middle School, and John Swett High School will perform a free concert.
 
Free Eldercare Talk
On Saturday, May 18 (2pm at the Crockett Library) Sylvia Gandolfo will present a free presentation called, “Are Your Ducks Lined Up? Living Longer and Staying in Control.”
 
Walk of Honor for Veterans
On Saturday, May 18 at 10am, walkers will cross the Al Zampa Memorial Bridge and have a BBQ lunch. $25. Proceeds benefit Crockett’s Memorial Hall and the Viet Nam Veterans of Diablo Valley.

Port Costa Town Wide Yard Sale

 Port Costa Locals will be hawking their wares in front of their homes and at the school. Out-of-town guests are welcome to rent a 10×10 space in the schoolyard for a donation of $25 to the Port Costa Conservation Society. Due to safety concerns, there will be no vehicle in-and-outs in the schoolyard between 9 AM and 4 PM. For info about renting a 10 x 10 space at the school, call 510-787-2254.

 Enjoy some grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, sodas and water at the school.

 Carquinez Model Railroad Society’s Model Train Show

 The Carquinez Model Railroad Society is having a Model Train Show Saturday and Sunday, May 11 & 12, 10 AM to 4 PM. The show will be at 645 Loring Avenue.

Congressman Thompson has shown a great interest in our community, and this event is a wonderful opportunity to introduce (or re-introduce) yourself to him. The food is also great, as is the wine!

There will be e-waste recycling available, and there will be FOUR refurbished desktop computer systems available for local nonprofits. Non-profits can bring a brief letter stating their need along with their 501(c)3 number. This is a great opportunity that some of our local organizations took advantage of last year, so please do spread the word!

 
Get on the Map for Crockett’s Townwide Yard Sale
 
Crockett’s Annual Townwide Yard Sale will be Saturday, May 4, starting at 8:00 AM., with maps being sold on Pomona Street. The charge to get your address on the map is $5. Register at J&L Market, Valona Deli or What’s on Second. Downtown Plaza spaces are still available, $10 for Chamber members, $15 for non-members, plus a $10 refundable cleaning deposit. You can register for Plaza spots at What’s on Second. Registration deadline is May 1. For information call Crockett’s Chamber of Commerce at 510-787-1155.

Town Cleanup
 
The Crockett Improvement Association will be sponsoring a town cleanup on Saturday, April 20th, from 9:00 AM to Noon. Volunteers should meet at Alexander Park on Rolph Avenue. Volunteers will be clearing brush and weeds along Pomona and Rolph, cleaning the Downtown Plaza on 2nd Avenue, weeding around the Rolph Memorial, and overall cleaning up the public areas around town. Bring your tools. The more volunteers, the more areas get cleaned up! Free lunch for volunteers at 12:00 PM at St. Marks Church, 800 Pomona Avenue.
